Located on the corner of Calle Zaragoza and 20th of November in Cabo San Lucas is El Peregrino Restaurant Bar. With is green front, I recognized that we had driven past it many times in the past. Several people on Facebook had commented that this was one of their favorite places in Cabo San Lucas. Entering the restaurant, the dining room has about 10 tables seating two to eight people. On the right side inside the door is the kitchen and then the bar serving the restaurant. Blackboards list the daily specials – reduced priced items from the menu – and all of the drink specials above the bar.
The hostess led us to a table and our server brought us menus and introduced himself. The menu offers starters, salads, soups and items from the grill on the first page and main dishes desserts and a kid’s menu on the second page. We ordered our drinks as we perused the menu. A server brought us a basket that had four small bruschetta in it with warm bread, chopped tomatoes with lots of garlic and a slice of parmesan on top – delicious. We decided to share a Caesar Salad as our appetizer. The portion size was more than large enough for two with great small bread croutons, tomatoes, a very tasty dressing, and the fresh parmesan cheese on the side. It was one of the better Caesar’s that we have had in Cabo San Lucas.
For a main course, Beth ordered the BBQ Ribs – pork ribs – with coleslaw and French Fries. This was the Thursday special and so the price was significantly reduced. There were five ribs, lots of coleslaw and the fries were crispy. I decided to try the grilled chicken breast, which came with a choice of sauces. I selected the piccata sauce with lots of capers. The chicken was served with grilled vegetables – zucchini, carrots, and broccoli, and mashed potatoes. Both the chicken and vegetables were in a very good piccata sauce. The chicken was a large butterflied breast (enough for me to take half home with me). The dish was served with a basket of fresh garlic toast.
We thoroughly enjoyed the food. The service was excellent. Our server tried to convince us to have dessert but we were both full (and on low carb diets). The whole meal with our drinks was only $1,160 pesos!
