Our Todos Santos developer, Hector Avilez asked me to meet him at his family’s favorite breakfast place in Cabos San Lucas – Hoja Santa. Located just off Calle Alikan (a block from Los Kurricanes) on Calle Mariano Abosolo, this breakfast restaurant has very comfortable outdoor dining. I was met at the door and given my choice of a table in the three different dining areas of the restaurant (there are over 25 tables). The dining areas are shade by pergolas or large umbrellas. Hector arrived and we were given our menus. The menu offers fruit and yoghurt, several different kinds of eggs, pancakes, waffles, French toast, five recommendations of the chef including avocado toast, shakshuka, migas bowl and a breakfast sandwich. There are also a number of specials on a separate sheet.
Hector ordered a fresh squeezed orange juice and I select Diet Coke. We were brought a complimentary amuse of a small cheesecake tart – very nice. I ordered my regular Huevos a la Mexicana, which was served with sliced avocado, pan fried potatoes, refried beans, and a slice of fresh bread. The presentation, flavor and portion size were great. Hector chose scrambled eggs with spinach and onions, which were served with the same sides. The breakfasts were great.
Hector introduced me to the owner, Marion Rodriguez. He and his nephew had worked in banking in San Jose and were laid off during the pandemic and decided to open the restaurant. Their chef is from Diamante. The restaurant has been open for four years and Hector says it is packed on Sundays. Most of the tables were full during our visit on a Tuesday morning.
The staff provided great service, the food was very good, the atmosphere very comfortable and the prices very reasonable. A good hidden gem for people not used to venturing a little away from the center of town.
