KITCHEN SAN JOSE DEL CABO

John Anderson, Editor

Located on Jose Maria Morelos across from Lumbre, Kitchen recently changed its name from Kitchen Table. This unique outdoor restaurant was built in the courtyard of the old Aramburo School in the Art District in San Jose del Cabo. With seating at the long bar, in the bar and in an outdoor dining room, the atmosphere is extremely pleasant, especially as the sun goes down and the lighting of the restaurant comes on. Kitchen’s menu is unique as it offers small and big bites or two different tasting menus to experience almost everything on the menu. As there is often a relatively big group when we venture to dinner at Kitchen, we order many of the small bites on the menu and let everyone at the table have a taste. This night was no different.

The dinner always starts with Andrea – their name for their sourdough bread that is served with smoky butter. It is absolutely delicious. So, as everyone got their favorite beverage and sampled the sourdough and smoky butter we made our food choices. From the small bites menu, the table ordered the Heirloom Tomatoes, Crispy Shrimp Tempura with tempura chiles, Sirloin Croquettes, Shrimp Empanadas, French Fries, Charcoal Roasted Beats and Gorgonzola, and Sweet Potato Puffs. For main courses, Jackie selected the Mussels & Fries, Jerry, the Charcoal Grilled Catch of the Day, and Kevin decided to try the tasting menu. The presentation and variety of flavors on the table was incredible. We were all quiet for a while as we sampled the great food.

For dessert, the table was split between the Lemon Brulée – a lemon tart with a caramelized top, like creme brulée – and the chocolate mousse, served in a small canning jar. We were all offered a shot of a cacao coffee liqueur.

Overall, it was an excellent evening, with good food, great service from Miguel and great company.
