Plaza Pescador in the hotel zone in San Jose del Cabo has a number of restaurants from which to choose. Whether you like Mexican food (La Mexicana), Seafood (Penca), French inspired (Bistro by Sebastien Agnes), Latin (Latino 8) or sushi (Spicy Tuna), there are lots of good options. One of our favorite choices is Italian – La Forchetta – right on the corner off Calle Punta Gorda. Inevitably, we are there to visit Pablo Portilla and his great staff a few times a month. He recently let us know that summer is when they test new items for the menu and so we wanted to give some a try. Depending on the weather, there is seating both outside on the deck or inside the restaurant.
In July, we visited several times and had a variety of different dishes. All of the meals start with their fresh bruschetta, which is served in a bowl with a basket of different types of breads and crackers to enjoy it. We often try to get a little extra to take home, it is so good. Following the bruschetta, we will often share a Caesar Salad that has a great creamy dressing. On our two recent visits, Beth ordered one of her favorites, the chicken parmesan with spaghetti and the gnocchi on a second visit. I on the other hand enjoy two salmon dishes – the salmon with fettuccine and lots of capers and then the new Spaghetti Roso al Salmone on the second visit. It is prepared with creamy roasted red bell pepper sauce, salmon and asparagus with cherry tomatoes. The serving was large enough that I took half home for a snack for the next day. During the meal, there is also live music from the street most nights.
Of course, we also tried a few of their desserts. Pablo always stops by to see if we enjoyed our dinner. As always, it was excellent. There is also a discount program for locals.
