Last year Lateral Crudo y Asado opened a location on the beach in La Fortuna beside Point Break Glamping. A large container acts as the kitchen for the restaurant with solar panels on top to provide power for this off-the-grid location. The outdoor restaurant in the sand is partially covered by fabric to protect from both sun and rain. The menu at the restaurant mirrors the one at Lateral behind La Comer in San Jose del Cabo – tacos, quesadillas, fresh seafood, and guacamole, along with a full bar.
I decided to have my favorites – sashimi tostada (sin arugula) and a mushroom quesadilla. The tostada has a base of guacamole with some jalapeno slices interspersed and radishes and onions on top. The flour tortilla of the quesadilla is filled with cheese and lots of mushrooms. Lateral provides other salsas and Pico de Gallo to enhance the great flavor of each even more.
On this Saturday afternoon, Mala Rumba, a quartet that performs on Monday nights at La Osteria (Lateral’s sister restaurant) behind La Comer. The combination of guitar, flute, and percussion makes the choice of both Mexican and pop hits very enjoyable.
There is nothing like an afternoon in the sun, looking at the Sea of Cortez with great music, food and service.
