Recently I have noticed ads on television and online for collagen boosting LED technology that can tighten, smooth and improve overall skin as we age. Many of these devices are not FDA approved and have little research to back them up. However, there are several devices that have extensive research and FDA approval to back them up from companies like Avologi, Zero Gravity and Space Touch.
Our first experience with an LED device was at Natural Beauty MedSpa in Puerto Paraiso in Cabo San Lucas. As part of an overall facial, the Oneo Advanced by Avologi was used as the final step in the process. After applying a collagen mask lotion, Zoe treated each section of my face and neck for four minutes. The before and after photos showed an overall improvement in skin tone and my skin certainly felt smoother. The handheld Red LED light device was developed by NASA and FDA approved to help with the production of collagen and elastin to help tighten skin and fight the signs of aging – wrinkles, sagging skin. This device can be used anywhere over the body and I have tried it on the crepe like skin on my legs.
Our second experience with an LED device was at Royal Bee Spa on the marina in Cabo San Lucas. This time it was a demonstration of the Sapphire X Blue LED light device by Zero Gravity. Unlike the Red LED light device, which reaches down into the hypodermis level to stimulate collagen and elastin production, the Blue LED light technology is designed to treat the epidermis – the outer layer of skin – improving texture, treating blemishes, brown spots and to reduce sebaceous hyperplasia (enlarged oil glands). Both my wife and I had our necks treated with this device. Beth noticed that the bumps on her skin on her neck had been reduced dramatically.
Our last experience with an LED device was completely different. The Cosmo by Space touch is a whole-body device that produces all types of LED light – red, blue, green and yellow. The device is placed over different sections of the body and by cycling through the different LED lights it can stimulate collagen and elastin production (red), improve skin texture and reduce brown spots and acne and acne scarring (blue), reduce inflammation, treat nerve conditions, manage diabetes and stomach conditions (green) and treat skin redness and flushing, rosacea, UV radiation damage and reduce the appearance of telangiectasias (ruptured blood vessels) on the nose and face (yellow). For this treatment, we were back at Natural Beauty MedSpa in Puerto Paraiso. Both my wife and I went through the full treatment – first on our legs and mid-section and then on chest and head and face. For the facial treatment, we each had a full collagen mask on our face and neck. This magnifies the effects of the LED treatments. We took some before and after photos that showed in this short time that wrinkly skin on our knees, looseness of the skin on our necks had improved significantly. The addition of collagen lotion following the treatment helped to continue the effects over time.
No one time treatment is going to truly stop or reverse the aging process. The manufacturers of the handheld devices (Oneo Advance, Sapphire X) recommend use three times a week for the first month and once a week after the first month for maximum results. The regimen is similar for the Cosmo whole-body device.
