SOLAR SUNDAY BLUE SEA

John Anderson, Editor

Located right beside Le Blanc resort there is a double-wide brown-wooden gate that leads to a small private residential neighborhood called Blue Seaholding nine homes. A winding road leads down through the neighborhood to two houses right on the Sea of Cortez. Ramon Estavillo and Mayra Pantoja took me to this home to review their solar system. Ramon indicated that this was the biggest residential installation that TVLsertec had done in Los Cabos. He mentioned that the owner was less concerned about storage of energy in solar panels that about servicing all of the electrical needs of the house, pool, and charging station for their electric truck during the day.

Climbing up through the garage to the roof of the home showed that this large house was completely covered with solar panels (see drone shots). There are at total of 91 Canadian Solar panels of over 400 W each, producing an amazing amount of power. Looking at the monitor in the solar room, at the time of our visit the panels were bringing in over 20.6 kW of solar energy to the inverters and the house was using 13.8 kW of electricity.

The solar energy was converted with a combination of two Fronious Inverters and two Victron Inverters. The four Victron charge controllers and the three Victron distribution boxes directed the converted solar electricity to the demands in the house. For storage, the home had one battery management cabinet with six Pylontech lithium-ion batteries, each storing 4.8 kW of energy for later use – a total of 28.8 kW. In addition to the solar system, the house has a large Cummins generator mounted on the edge of the roof. There are also six separate hot-water heating panels mounted on the roof.

This system is very complicated and according the homeowner meets his needs of dramatically reducing the costs of electricity to operate all of the equipment inside and outside of the home.
