Sunday Brunch at Torote in Valle del Sol

John Anderson, Editor

Sunday brunch has started again as of October 22nd at Torote in Valle del Sol in the ranch country behind Costco in El Tezal. Unlike most brunch offerings in Los Cabos with a buffet or menu from which to choose, Torote has a fixed multi-course menu with several different food items in each course. There is no question that you will have both enough food to eat and a range of exceptional items with great flavors. A group of eight of us went for brunch last Sunday. We were seated in the upper lounge of the restaurant with great views of Lands End, the Sea of Cortez and the marina on one side and the mountains on the other.

Beth and I were the only ones of the group that had experienced Torote or the brunch before. Tatiana, the manager of the restaurant handed out the menus to everyone and then explained that you did not to make choices as everything on the menu would be served family style. She also asked if anyone had any allergies or dietary restrictions so they could adjust the menu for those people. Everyone also had the choice of enjoying their brunch with or without the special cocktails that were included on the menu.

The first appetizer course Included: (1) a beetroot and strawberry salad with chia seeds and amaranth; (2) a croissant crostini with serrano ham; (3) oysters shells filled with ceviche and (4) a bowl of mixed fruits. We could choose from a Spritz or a rose wine to accompany the course. Everyone at the table chose the Spritz.

The main course included: (1) wood-fire baked clams with chorizo,
(2) eggs Benedict with steak, avocado and beer and chimichurri hollandaise.
(3) salmon and goat cheese tamales with olives and fresh herbs salad; (4)
ajillo spiced seafood and pork belly pancakes with mushrooms and asparagus and (6) Sushi and sashimi prepared by a guest sushi chef. When you see the photo of our table with all these items on it, you will be amazed at the amount and nature of the dishes included in the main course. Along with the main course, we could choose a special mezcalita cocktail or an artisan beer. The cocktail was once again everyone’s choice.

The dessert course included: two special French toasts with a coffee cocktail.

Different people had different favorites from the brunch. Mike could not get enough of the seafood options – oyster shell ceviche, baked clams, and the sushi. Michele favorite food are beets and so the beetroot and strawberry salad consumed her attention. She also said that the tamales were the best that she had ever had. Beth loved the eggs Benedict and the quality of the beef on which the eggs sat, so much that she took the steak from the extra eggs. All of us ate the bowl of fruit that was included with the appetizer course and asked for more. Rick and David are neighbors from Pueblo Campestre tried everything and were so disappointed that April, Rick’s wife and David’s daughter was within them that they promised to be back. Our two guests from Israel, who couldn’t eat the shelf fish or pork devoured the eggs, salads, fruit and French toast. At the end, everyone was very full and delighted with the brunch.

Chef Victor Garrido, the chef and owner of Torote stopped by with the guest sushi chef to see how we liked the brunch. The eight of us raved about the experience. He had told me the first time that we came to the brunch to expect to spend at least two hours enjoying the meal. Enjoying the meal and the company meant that we were at Torote for a full three hours and reluctant to leave as we got our cars from the valet.

If you like to have a wonderful Sunday brunch experience in a great atmosphere with excellent food and service, make a reservation to go to Torote in Valle del Sol.
