Terramar Cantina in Pescadero

John Anderson, Editor

A few weeks ago, I had seen a post for a new restaurant in Pescadero located beside Baja Beans – Terramar Cantina. The restaurant opened just before Christmas for breakfast, lunch and dinner from Tuesday to Sunday each week (8:00 am to 10:00 pm, Sundays 10 to 5). On a trip to Todos Santos, we decide to stop for Beth to check the menu on our way back to San Jose del Cabo.

All of the sudden, I saw someone in the side-view mirror walking up beside the truck. I was surprised to see Raul Monroy. Raul and I had met in 2016 when he had a restaurant named Capriccio on Centenario in San Jose del Cabo. After it was filled with mud during Tropical Storm Lidia in 2017, he created Yumana Kitchen on the plaza in San Jose del Cabo and went on to help the launch of Lua del Mar beside Ashley Furniture Homestore in San Jose del Cabo. Terramar Cantina is his latest project with partner Ken Walker.  Ken has been a long-time resident of Cerritos and both are working on projects to improve the community (e.g. a lifeguard for Cerritos Beach, biking for children).

Terramar Cantina had been a small restaurant that Raul and Ken completely recreated with a rustic but very comfortable atmosphere both outdoors and under a palapa. The kitchen was doubled in size and a wood-fired pizza oven and grill add to the offerings. The built a small stage on one side of the restaurant so they can have live music on a regular basis. The attention to detail shows in the selection of table runners and dish ware that was sourced from Oaxaca.  The lighting, both outdoors and under the palapa is also amazing. A great sound system offers music at just the right level.

The breakfast menu offers any style of eggs with protein additions, French Toast, Fruit, Chilaquiles and Toasts. Their coffee is a special blend that is made for them by Docecuarenta in Todos Santos. Raul mentioned that it is completing well against the popular coffee at Baja Beans next door. The lunch and dinner menu offers appetizers – guacamole, ceviche, taquitos, nachos, croquetas – tacos and tostadas and pizza and tlayuda from the wood-fired oven. With a full bar and beer on tap, there are good beverages to complement the meal.

We arrived just after noon so Raul said that we could choose from either the breakfast or lunch menu. Beth went for her favorite French Toast, and I chose the chicken tacos. The French toast was three slices of their bread with fruit – banana, strawberry, cantaloupe, raspberries – and nut clusters on top, which also had icing sugar and chocolate sauce. She said that they were very good. My two tacos had fresh and very juice chicken with guacamole, greens, pickled onions and fresh juicy tomatoes on top of the tortillas. Limes and two salsas were offered to complement the favors of the tacos themselves. Fresh and delicious.

As we had Charlie, our Lhasa Apso with us, we couldn’t stay to see if they had dessert. However, now that we have discovered this new place, we will definitely be back for dinner and music in the near future.
