As our townhouse moves towards completion (too slow for us of course), this week the installation of most of the stone, tile and travertine on floors, stairs, showers, kitchen and bathroom countertops has been completed. We are very happy with the results.
All of the indoor floors are done with square travertine tiles. The showers are travertine tiles with insets for shampoo, soap other items. The bathroom vanities are covered with travertine slabs. The stair insets are handmade talavera tiles, which took forever to make the choice of the combination of tiles given the incredible selection at Terrazul (we ordered custom lot number plaques from Terrazul too). All of the outdoor spaces and the stair steps are Cafe 2 cantera stone from central Mexico and provided by DiCantera – Disenos en Cantera. Our indoor and outdoor kitchen counter tops are quartzite, upgraded from granite. We learned in the process that quartz is manmade and cannot be used outside in the heat as it will start to get wavy and uneven, while quartzite is a natural stone. We choose one quartzite for our kitchen and free-standing island countertops and another for our outdoor kitchen. We had Cabo Stone cut the sink cut out into a square to use as a chopping block, as it cannot be damaged. All of the countertops in the kitchen and bathrooms were supplied by Cabo Stone.
Now the only things that need to be finished with tile are the backsplashes in the indoor and outdoor kitchen with the alabaster subway tile from Porcelanosa and the fountain that is to be built in the courtyard with cantera stone and talavera tiles. The contractor has been doing a great job with all of the installations (other than countertops that were installed by Cabo Stone).
The electrical team were there on Saturday finishing pulling all of the wiring. We can wait until all of the plugs, switch plates, ceiling and wall lights are installed. The building process has been painless and the quality of the work and craftsmanship excellent.
