Located on Venustiano Carranza between Zaragoza and Morelos in Cabo San Lucas is Tropical Kitchen Cabo. While the business has been in existence for over three years it has only been in this location for four months. The bright and airy restaurant with tropical artwork and wooden tropical birds hanging over the tables names its dishes for the tropical colors and birds that it features. Jazmin and her husband (a biologist), the owners have migrated the restaurant more and more toward becoming fully plant based. The current menu has one side that is totally vegan and the other than offers some dishes with chicken. She said that the next version of the menu would go even further to become almost fully plant based.
I was there to meet Pau Nery, the owner of Nanafit.Cabo, a vegan bakery that supplies desserts to Tropical Kitchen (an upcoming post). While I waited, I decided to try some of their breakfast items. Before the breakfast, they served me a sample of their pastor alternative with tortilla chips, which was very tasty. I ordered a Pitangas Smoothie made with pineapple, mango and banana. It was thick, rich and delicious. I also ordered the Banana Pancakes made with oat flour that came with fruit, seeds and nuts and a selection of natural syrups to add even more flavor. There were three thick and fluffy pancakes with bananas, strawberries and blueberries on top and bananas in the mix and they were also great.
The atmosphere is bright and cheery, the service excellent and the food great. The biggest problem with the restaurant is that it is truly a hidden gem. If you are interested in great plant-based food, this is a must of a place to try. They also offer a Saturday night Tropical Market.
